The Real Cost Of Vinyl Fence
The cost of vinyl fence may put some people off at first.
Depending on what style of fence you want, you can find vinyl fencing from around $14.00 per foot to $30.00 per foot.
While wood is cheaper, during the life of the fence you’ll see where vinyl actually becomes cheaper than wood.
Let’s take a look at a few of these reasons.
INSTALLATION
Installing a vinyl fence is no more difficult than installing a wooden fence.
You could say it was easier, in fact. Planks do not need to be set and fastened individually with nails or screws.
Vinyl fence panels can be assembled lying down, then attached to the posts, making assembly much easier.
Since the vinyl parts fit together without nails and screws, you don’t need to worry about rusting metal causing stains on the fence and
weakening the fence.
MAINTENANCE
Vinyl fencing is made so the color runs throughout the material, unlike wooden fences, which only carry a thin layer of paint.
Paint obviously needs to be reapplied periodically. Vinyl fencing needs no painting.
The concerns that this fencing yellows over time are outdated as well, as today’s vinyl styles no longer have that problem.
They withstand sun and weather much better than when vinyl fences first appeared on the market.
Today’s vinyl comes with UV protection.
Wooden fences can also be damaged when you’re trimming the lawn and garden.
Vinyl is strong, and can withstand bumps and knocks from the lawn mower. It will not be attacked by termites, fungus or dry rot which makes
the cost of vinyl fence very reasonable.
Unlike wood, they are free of harmful chemicals like arsenic and creosote. All you’ll ever need to do is spray off dust and dirt with the
garden hose.
Wood fences will need to have pieces replaced or reattached during its lifetime. Vinyl, due to being put together by fitting snugly together
instead of using hardware, is tougher and withstands more time and weather. As you can see, being practically maintenance-free saves a lot of
money.
DURABILITY
Vinyl fencing comes with a manufacturer’s warranty. Wood has no warranty. When something happens to wood, it must be torn down and replaced.
Vinyl fences can last fifty years or more… wood doesn’t last anywhere near that long.
Now take the cost of your vinyl fence and divide it by fifty years… it isn’t so expensive now, is it? In fifty years, you may have replaced
your wooden fence two or three times, and painted it at least every other year. So, which would you rather do?
Spend a few more pennies now and never worry about your fence again, or save a few pennies now and spend your spare time painting and
repairing, spending those pennies you saved and more?
